Gulf Shores

Explore Alabama's Gulf Shores

Martinique on the Gulf is located on the Fort Morgan Peninsula, just about 11 miles away from the city of Gulf Shores and less than three miles from Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. With more than 600 feet of sugar-white sand shorelines, relaxing on the beach is one of best past times at Martinique. But if you’re looking to get out and explore, Gulf Shores boasts family-friendly attractions, historic sites, shopping, dining, and more.

Attractions

The Gulf Coast Zoo is one of the area’s most beloved attractions, home to more than 500 animals. Located just a few blocks from the beach, the zoo is small but mighty and offers regular events, talks, and a petting zoo. Another favorite family-friendly attraction is Alligator Alley where you can watch more than 150 alligators, as well as turtles, owls, osprey, and more.

Play mini golf, ride bumper boats, or race go-karts and nearby parks like Adventure Island, Track Recreation Center, and Pirates Island Adventure Golf. Waterville USA, a 20-acre waterpark and amusement park, features thrilling water slides, an arcade, escape room, and more. Catch a movie at Cobb Theatre or Rave Motion Pictures, or go bowling at The Gulf Bowl & Captain’s Choice Seafood

Needing a thrill? The Hummingbird Zipline Course, which features eight ziplines covering 6,000 feet, takes you through dense forest and over the Intracoastal Waterway. The course ends near The Wharf’s Main Street.

Science buffs, explorers, and knowledge-seekers must check out the Exploreum Science Center. The Exploreum is home to a variety of exhibits, IMAX films, digital shows, experiments, and much more.

History and Culture

The deep-rooted history of Gulf Shores is still evident throughout the area. USS ALABAMA at Battleship Memorial Park is a veterans memorial park and museum. Here you can view warships, artillery, aircraft, war artifacts, and more.

Built in 1935, the Bellingrath Gardens and Home can be viewed all throughout the year. This 65-acre Garden Estate is in full bloom with camellias in the winter, azaleas in the spring, roses in the summer, chrysanthemums in autumn and Magic Christmas in Lights during the holiday season.

Visit the Fort Morgan State Historic Site, Historic Fort Gaines, and Pensacola Lighthouse and Museum for even more history.

Nature Preserves

Bon Secour Nature Preserve boasts more than 7,000 acres of protected land in five separate units on the Fort Morgan Peninsula. Here you’ll have access to miles of hiking trails, wildlife viewing, bird watching, fishing, and boating.

Gulf State Park offers three miles of pristine beachfront and about 6,500 acres of protected land. The 25-mile paved Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is perfect for walking or biking, and the Gulf State Park Fishing and Education Pier is a great spot to cast a line.

Shopping and Dining

There are several larger shopping destinations located just a short drive from Martinique, such as the Tanger Outlet in Foley and Pelican Place at Craft Farms. The Wharf is an open-air shopping center with dining, entertainment, The Wharf Marina, and The Wharf Amphitheater. Other great shopping destinations include Windmill Market, Original Oyster House Boardwalk, and SanRoc Cay

Looking for a place to grab a bite? Gulf Shores is home to a variety of restaurants and types of cuisine. Fish River Grill, Sea-N-Suds Restaurant & Oyster Bar, Flying Harpoon, The Royal Oyster, and Bahama Bobs are a few of the local favorites. Grab barbecue at Hog Wild Beach & BBQ, a burger at The Diner, or breakfast at Kitty’s Kafe. If you’re looking for a healthy snack, Picnic Beach offers fresh juices and smoothies.
